Coming around

I’m on the mend!  All the little signs are there:

a) I cast on a new jumper.  It’s Wendy Bernard‘s Skinny Empire, from Custom Knits, and I haven’t changed anything yet (except the yarn, but who counts yarn substitution as a change?).  It’s a strange, and kind of nice, feeling to simply cast on and go with a pattern you’ve got, as it is printed, instead of changing the gauge and remembering that you need to make bigger arms or whatever.  It’s too early to tell, of course: I may need to completely reconstruct it by the time I get to the end, but for now, I’m enjoying the feeling of just doing as I’m told.

b) I made a batch of foccaccia!  It kinda sucked: I overcooked it and made the loaves too thin, so they ended up more like flatbreads.  But they were tasty with cheese and that’s the main thing.

c) I made chai syrup.  This, in itself, is a reason to get better. I loaded it up with less honey and more cardamom, and man, is it tasty.  It is so good, mixed into some warm soy milk with breakfast.  Man oh man oh man.  I wish I had some right now.  But I don’t.  Isn’t life a challenge?  Now I want to work out how to make this stuff in bulk, so I can give bottles of it away to everyone I like.  It’s a bit of a slow process, though, so I’m not sure how I could make big batches.  Hm.
